Preparing for Flu Season: Reducing your Risk of Blood and Body Fluid Exposures
Date:
September 20, 2017
Time:
2:30 PM ET

Webinar Description

As influenza season approaches, the occupational risk of needlesticks, sharps injuries, and blood and body fluid exposures increases because more procedures are being performed that require the use of needles – flu vaccine and medication delivery, blood collection, and other procedures. Risks can be greatly reduced by implementing programs that adhere to the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard including the use of safety engineered devices (needles, syringes, blood collection) and personal protective equipment (eye protection, gloves, gowns, etc.).

Learning Objectives
  • Describe current prevalence of bloodborne diseases (chronic and emerging infectious diseases and co-infections)
  • Identify frequency of exposures and injuries occurring in the US based on occupation, device and procedure type
  • Describe key elements of compliance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
  • Provide recommendations for building data-driven prevention programs based on safety device and PPE use, employee feedback, record-keeping and training
